3M Earplug Lawsuit

We are no longer accepting new 3M Combat Arms 2 Ear Plug cases

3M®’s dual-ended Combat Arms Earplugs Version 2 (CAEv2), sold to all four branches of the United States military, may have caused hundreds of thousands of U.S. soldiers to suffer hearing loss and tinnitus.

3M®, a St. Paul-based manufacturer, originally developed their Combat Arms earplugs to protect service members from hearing loss in combat zones and had an exclusive contract with the U.S. military Department of Defense.

Service members in Iraq and Afghanistan are regularly exposed to loud sounds from aircraft, artillery, guns, and explosives. Repeated exposure to this noise level without proper ear protection can permanently damage the eardrums and cause deafness.

3M® claimed their dual-ended Combat Arms earplug filtered out such noise. The earplugs were defective and did nothing to protect soldiers from significant damage.

To accommodate a soldier’s helmet, the plugs did not fit deeply enough inside the ear canal to stay in place, and without an airtight seal, the plugs failed to block sound. 3M® knew its earplugs were defective but failed to disclose this massive safety issue to the military.

As a result, thousands of soldiers were needlessly exposed to damaging noise levels and suffered permanent hearing loss. To make matters worse, no recall was ever issued on the product; a new version is still in use today.

Who Is Eligible To Demand Compensation From 3M®?

The typical victims of hearing-related injuries caused by 3M®’s defective product are veterans between the ages of 30 and 49 who served in the Army.

To qualify for a 3M® combat earplugs lawsuit, you must have served in the military between 2003 and 2015. You must have worn military-issued earplugs during your service and been exposed to loud noises.

Since your service, you must have been diagnosed with either total or partial hearing loss or tinnitus.

If you meet these conditions, it’s essential to contact an experienced 3M® military earplugs attorney to look into filing a claim.

In 2018, 3M® agreed to pay a $9.1 million settlement to resolve allegations that it knowingly sold defective earplugs to the military after a victim filed a 3M® earplug lawsuit through the whistleblower provision of the False Claims Act.

Your attorney can evaluate your case and determine whether you may be entitled to receive financial compensation for your hearing-related injury.
